Summer in the City

Once again, we've gone from winter to summer with little in between.  Spring and fall are my two favorite seasons, but they seem to have disappeared.  However, the little tree we planted two years ago is now in bloom, so I thought I'd share that with you.  It's a Winter King hawthorn.  Lovely white flowers now, berries and colorful leaves in the fall, and interesting exfoliating bark.  We love this little tree we planted with our neighbors.

  1. Your Winter King is gorgeous and he looks so healthy, what a great addition to your street.

    1. Jack is very protective of our little tree. He's even spoken harshly to people incapable of parallel parking who get too close to it.

    1. It is a lovely little tree. We and our neighbors were careful to research for a type that would grow too high (because there are electric / telephone / cable lines above it) and that would provide year round interest. So far, so good!

  3. What a joy, to see your "little tree" a beautiful adolescent. And a neighborly thing you did...I hope the neighbors are still there to enjoy as well?

    1. Our neighbors are still here. They're lovely people and we're all glad that we share a beautiful tree.

  4. Thanks for honoring our Earthling relatives that don't run around and make lots of noise or (usually) bad smells. They provide such nourishment for, not only our bodies, but also our eyes and our spirits.

    1. Living in the city can be stressful, even though environmentally it's probably better for us to live check to jowl than spread all across the country. I worry about polluted air, the noise and trash bother me, and quite often it feels like there are just too many people. But looking at our little tree always makes me feel better. I wish we had room for another one and I live for the day when I look out our window and see a nest with eggs!

  5. What a pretty tree! Sorry to hear you had such a short spring. Mine has been gloriously long, something that rarely happens here it seems. The only thing I can complain about is my allergies!

    1. I've been enjoying your spring via your posts and photos, so, thank you! It just seems it's all winter or summer these days. I'm still trying to figure out if there's a way I can spend most of the year in New England and the winter months in Pennsylvania. (Note to Self: Buy more lottery tickets!)

Jack's been having trouble with allergies this year. I understand it's a bad year for them.
